Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer flounders at start and end of debate

UPDATE 9/3/10: Jan Brewer says she won't be participating in any more debates. The Arizona Daily Star reports: Incumbent Republican Jan Brewer said Thursday she has no intention of participating in any more events with Democrat Terry Goddard. She said the only reason she debated him on Wednesday is she had to to qualify for more than $1.7 million in public funds for her campaign. I don't believe that things come out in proper context in an adversarial atmosphere," she said. And Brewer said she is available for interviews. Meanwhile, Brewer has recanted the beheadings claim that she avoided commenting on after the debate. Daily Fix Poll: Will Jan Brewer’s debate performance be a game-changer?

Your Browser DoesNot Support IFrames. By Felicia Sonmez Arizona Gov. With all signs pointing to a Brewer blowout, the Fix moved the race from Toss Up to Lean Republican in July. But sometimes, gaffes can damage -- and even sink -- the strongest of candidacies. Brewer has taken on a higher profile thanks to her role in the Arizona immigration debate, and her rise in the national eye has

Ad of the day: Music video attacks Meg Whitman

Billionaire Meg Whitman from California Working Families on Vimeo. This toe-tapper from California Working Families features a series of Meg Whitman glamour shots, branding California Republican gubernatorial candidate as a high-flying big spender. But the video, without the on-screen text and musical score, could easily pass as a pro-Whitman ad. The ad is set to Travie Mccoy's "Billionaire," in which he sings, "I want to be a billionaire so frickin' bad." It then goes on, using on-screen text, to claim Whitman has spent $150 million on her campaign, hiked spending at eBay -- where she served as CEO -- by 2000 percent and raised customer fees six times in six years. The group is a combination of different labor organizations, predominantly labor, and counts the Democratic Governors association among its membership. Update (3:10 p.m.): The non-partisan FactCheck.org analyzed a similar ad from California Working Families, calling the claim that Whitman
