Congressman Eric Massa’s Naked Confrontation with Rahm Emmanuel

Congressman Eric Massa in March 2009

The strange confrontation between Congressman Eric Massa and White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel in the Congressional gym shower is just the latest allegation of questionable behavior being lodged against the Obama administration over the way it's handling the desperate push for health care reform.

Massa resigned today over allegations against him; allegations which were filed with a House ethics committee regarding an off-color verbal exchange the Congressman had with a staffer at a wedding.

Top 20 Conservatives to Follow on Twitter

These days, if you're not using the microblogging site Twitter, you're missing out on a huge social networking tool and an opportunity to surround yourself with an online community of your choosing.

The trouble with Twitter, however, is that it can be overwhelming. With so many people tweeting, it's often difficult to know which Twitterers offer the best tweets. Some don't post very often, others post so much it becomes uncomfortable.

While Twitter offers conservatives the chance to get the latest political news directly from the news-makers themselves, finding thought-provoking conservatives who post frequently enough to make them worthy of following can be tough. While hash tags such as #tcot (top conservatives on Twitter) and #gop (Republican Party) are great ways to find useful and innovative information from unknown and up-and-coming conservatives and Republicans, this list of the Top 20 Conservatives to Follow on Twitter offers About.com readers a great resource for finding their favorite politicians, commentators, activists and organizations.

Jim Bunning Falsely Scapegoated for Questioning Unfunded Stop-Gap

Kentucky Sen. Jim Bunning speaks after a vote on March 2, 2010 on Capitol Hill. Bunning has been falsely accused of blocking legislation to extend benefits and health insurance subsidies for unemployed. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid subsequently froze the vote, which may force up to 200,000 people to lose benefits this week.

I can appreciate the sentiment of Senate Democrats, but I loathe their tactics.

First, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid asks for a unanimous consent on a bill that would extend unemployment benefits until the end of the year. It's a noble idea, but it carries the heavy price tag of $10 billion.

So, Kentucky Sen. Jim Bunning objects. He doesn't filibuster; he objects. He objects because the unanimous consent bill doesn't include a payment mechanism. Rather than acknowledge the validity of Bunning's argument (that there is no money for this proposal) and call for a roll call vote, Reid freezes the process and accuses Bunning of filibustering.

Ridiculous.

Democrats Prepare Nuclear Option for ObamaCare

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is interviewed for ABC's 'This Week' on Feb. 26, 2010 in Washington, D.C. for a Feb. 28 broadcast.

Fasten your seat belts.

Despite their hedging at Obama's Health Care "Summit," it appears Democrats are gearing up to go nuclear with ObamaCare; that is, pass the president's health care reform measure using the federal budget reconciliation process, which lowers the approval threshold from the constitutionally-required two-thirds majority to a simple majority of 51 percent. If "nuclear" sounds a little melodramatic, consider this: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is urging fellow Democrats to pass the president's health care bill no matter what -- even if it costs them their jobs.

Which is easy for Pelosi to say, of course. Despite the loyal opposition she'll face from Republican businessman John Dennis in the 2010 midterm election, her seat is safe. It's easy to be fearless when you have nothing to lose.

Obama’s Health Care Summit Dog & Pony Show

The Democrats' health care reform plan, HR 3590, sits on the table prior to the start of a bipartisan meeting hosted by President Barack Obama with members of Congress to discuss health reform legislation at Blair House in Washington, D.C.

President Barack Obama didn't take too kindly to Republican Whip Eric Cantor using the Democrats' 2,700-page health care reform bill as a visual aid during the Health Care Summit today on Capitol Hill.

Before Cantor had even finished making his point, the president interrupted him and said the Virginia representative's prop was just the type of political "stunt" that gets in the way of real debate.

"The truth of the matter," Obama said with irritation in his voice, "is that health care is very complicated."

What the president fails to understand is that the substantial size of the document is a legitimate cause for concern, and the reason it serves as a such an effective "prop" is because every word of it sets a whole new set of guidelines for the American health care system. Obama admits his legislation is complicated, but fails to acknowledge that a complicated system is easily exploited.

CPAC Marks Major Conservative Shift

Newly-elected Republican Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown speaks to attendees of the 37th Annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Feb. 18, 2010 in Washington, D.C. Brown was a surprise speaker and introduced former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

There is no question that the 2010 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) was different than those of years past.

More than ever, right-leaning Americans are looking toward conservatives for answers, and for the first time, the message from CPAC speakers was one of confidence and reassurance. If nothing else, this year's CPAC showed rank-and-file conservatives and independents that we have the answers. We've just been stymied by two things: the public's perception of us as right-wing nut-jobs and false conservatives who call themselves Republicans to get elected and then refuse to get out of the way.
