Plea over biofuel subsidies

The Government should stop funding subsidies for biofuels to tackle climate change and instead use the money to stop the destruction of rainforests and peatland, a think tank said.

Toshiba, Doosan to team on nuclear plants-sources

Japan's Toshiba Corp and South Korea's Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction will work together to build nuclear reactors to keep pace with demand, sources close to the matter said on Tuesday.

Shaw to add 2,900 La. jobs in nuclear deal

The Shaw Group Inc. said it will add 2,900 jobs in the next decade - 1,500 corporate jobs chiefly in Baton Rouge, 1,400 manufacturing jobs in Lake Charles - to create a nuclear manufacturing center in Louisiana.

Entergy to continue paying New York: Cuomo

New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo said Entergy Corp will pay a total $432 million to the state power authority as part of a multi-year contract even if completes the spin-off of its nuclear power stations.

Peru company to build $240 million wind farm

Peru's government says renewable energy company Iberoperuana Inversiones SAC is developing a $240 million, 240 megawatt wind farm on Peru's southern coast.

Peru Energy Minister Juan Valdivia Romero says the park will provide electricity to more than 80,000 families and that production will reach 20 megawatts by the end of 2008.

Iberoperuana is building the wind farm in the district of Paracas and inaugurated the first turbine of the wind park on Sunday.

Iberoperuana Inversiones is a Peruvian company with Peruvian and Spanish capital that began operating in 2007 with initial support from Spanish Wind Iberica SA.
