Officers Testify at Smuggling Trial
Jurors examined packages of cocaine wrapped in clear plastic Wednesday as witnesses in a drug-smuggling case continued to testify that they never saw a former Mexican police commander accused of helping run the ring commit a crime.
Officers from several Texas police departments described 2006 encounters with defendants in the case. They told jurors about the thousand of dollars in cash and bricks of cocaine, valued at $13,000 to $15,000 each, they seized.
Among those on trial is Carlos Landin Martinez, who prosecutors say acted as second-in-command for Mexico's Gulf Cartel while serving as the Tamaulipas state police commander. Read more
